ATVs
A very versatile, if small, vehicle which has been pressed
into service at Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control
is the Polaris 400 four-wheel-drive All Terrain Vehicle. Featuring
a 425cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine, these nimble cycles perform
a variety of duties to control both mosquitoes and aquatic weeds.
When outfitted with a 50-gallon fiberglass tank, they can be used
for spraying mosquito larva or aquatic weeds in roadside ditches and
canals. |

When outfitted with a “thermal fogger” they can be
used to spray for adult mosquitoes in parks and other areas where
public gatherings are scheduled. Additionally, they are sometimes
equipped with dry larvicide “spreaders” which are used
to treat mosquito larvae in sensitive areas with the same biologically
friendly granular larvicide used by the helicopter.
Not only are these ATVs versatile, but they’re a lot of fun
to drive!
