Permit Intake and Processing involves the intake and processing from the time of building permit application to the issuance of those permits. The Section accepts all pool, aluminum enclosure, fence, wall, and single-family, multi-family and commercial permits for construction in unincorporated Hillsborough County. Many of these will require sub-permits for electrical, mechanical, roofing and gas. There are several separate functions that comprise the permitting process in the County. First, all building permit applications must be submitted in a complete form at the Intake Counter. Once the application is reviewed for sufficiency, it is given a project number and routed to the Graphics Section. The graphics section reviews the application to insure the zoning district allows the use, reviews applicable setback requirements, height restrictions, flood zone determination, and other demographic information that is used in the Department’s database. Once graphics are approved, the application is routed to the Plans Examination Review, where it is reviewed for compliance with the Florida Building Code. Once the plans are reviewed and approved, the plans are routed to the Processing Section for the permit to be finalized and issued. Finally, the approved permit is routed to the Cashiers for collection of any outstanding fees.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
The New 2010 Florida Building Code Will Become Effective March 15, 2012

Please be aware that effective March 15, 2012, the new 2010 Florida Building Code will be in effect.  The 2010 Florida Building Code replaces the current edition of the 2007 Florida Building Code.   All plans and applications received on or after March 15, 2012, must reflect the 2010 Florida Building Code.  Applications that are submitted prior to March 15, 2012, will remain valid for 180 days from the application date. Any application that is not picked up will become null and void after 180 days from the application date, and a new application, with the current Code in effect, will be required before proceeding.
