Kevin Beckner, elected to the county commission in November 2008, is a native of Michigan City, Indiana. In 1993, he was graduated from Indiana University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Business and Psychology. In addition, he attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in 1990 and worked as a police officer while attending college.
Beckner's professional background includes ownership of a musical entertainment business and now as a Certified Financial Planner. He has served as President, Leadership Tampa Bay, Class of 2006; was a member of Ybor City Chamber of Commerce; and has supported various human rights' organizations throughout the Tampa Bay region.
Since entering office, Commissioner Beckner has been a champion for at-risk children and their families. He created the Juvenile Justice Task Force whose mission is to help at risk youth become more productive citizens within our community. He continues to promote fiscal responsibility, sustainable growth with respect for the environment and transparency in government, as well as advocating for a multimodal transportation system.
As part of his duties as a County Commissioner, Beckner currently serves on the following Boards and Councils: Chairman of the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission, Arts Council, Children's Board, Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Public Safety Coordinating Council.
