All pets relinquished by their owners must be in compliance with the Hillsborough
County ordinance for current rabies vaccination and registration tag, which is applicable to all dogs and cats four months or older. Residents not in compliance may need to stop by the Animal Services customer service desk for necessary documents.
While Animal Services has a thriving pet adoption program, it's nearly impossible to re-home all of the animals arriving on a daily basis. Before deciding to visit the County's animal surrender gate, pet owners are encouraged to consider friends or relatives who might take in their pet. Other resources to research include local rescue groups and local shelters, such as The
Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
